BlueHost has been providing web hosting services to customers of all types since 1996. BlueHost really has a strong hold on quality of service, that’s their main focus, why shouldn’t it be their strongest competitive edge. For as low as $7.95 per month, they provide 15 GB of disk space, and 400GB of monthly data transfer. Only one plan, but enough features to get you by, even if you have a fairly large site.

Price Value

As mentioned before, BlueHost currently only has one plan, which from my knowledge doesn’t have a particular name associated with it. Anyway, it offers 15GB of web space, 400GB of monthly data transfer, free domain name, 2,500 POP E-mail accounts, and has the ability to host shopping carts, blogs, photo galleries and tons more. With the price being only $7.95 per month, along with their commitment to providing a quality service, it’s no wonder they are one of the fastest growing web host’s today.

Reliability

According to my personal experiences, I did not encounter any issues in terms of uptime. I did encounter the occasional slow down, but that’s a given with shared hosting. They were quick to solve the issue. They utilize high performance Xeon web servers, with a customized Apache web server, along with the pretty standard 24/7 network and server monitoring by their technicians.

Control Panel

BlueHost makes use of the cPanel control panel, which is one of the World’s largest, most popular web hosting control panel by far. It kind of reminds me of the Windows-based control panel, in the way it’s layed out. If you’re using your computer right now, you can use their control panel. They have customized it a bit, with a drag and drop site builder, billing area, and special integrated FTP software.

Customer Service

BlueHost is known for it’s amazing technical and customer support. I have had a pleasant experience with them, and when I wanted to cancel, they were even nice enough to refund the remaining portion of the pre-paid money. They have toll free support from Monday through Friday, 8AM to 10PM and Saturday 8AM to 5PM. They also offer support through their helpdesk, and you’ll have access to their extensive knowledgebase, both of them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

pmh: I have *not* had a good experience with Bluehost support. They give canned responses and did not follow up on problems I reported with CPanel backup scripts.

They dropped some Fantasctico installs without informing their customers and expressed the attitude that serious customers would want to install the software themselves rather than use Fantastico. That may be true, but if they wish to limit their customer base to techies they should say so up front and not use it as a crutch when problems occur with user-friendly systems like CPanel and Fantastico.
